LISA project will solve the technical bottleneck of lithium-sulfur battery and reduce battery cost

According to foreign media reports, the Lithium Sulphur for Safe Road Electrification (LISA) project will be launched on New Year's Day next year. The project lasted for 43 months and involved more than 7.9 million euros (about US$898 million). Participated by 13 European partners, including: OXIS Energy UK. The overall goal of the project is to design and manufacture a lithium-sulfur battery to improve the safety of electric vehicle electrification applications.

LISA has improved the safety of high energy density lithium-sulfur batteries. Its solid solid state non-flammable electrolytes have been verified in 20Ah cells. LISA will address the technical bottleneck of lithium-sulfur batteries such as lithium metal protection, power and volumetric energy density, and is committed to reducing its cost, thereby reducing the cost of the entire electric vehicle. The project will assess the sustainability of the technology from an environmental and economic perspective.

LISA positions lithium metal protection and solid-state electrolytes to integrate process concepts into future manufacturing lines. In addition, the project will start with new materials, components, batteries and processes, and expects to apply this technology to lithium-ion batteries and solid-state lithium batteries.

To this end, the LISA project has had a profound impact on current and future electric vehicle batteries, making its energy density far beyond the theoretical capacity of chemical substances. After all, natural graphite, cobalt or silicon-based chemicals are subject to manufacturability (processability, Limitation of manufacturability).

LISA project partners include: LEITAT (Coordinator), OXIS Energy, Cranfield University, Varta Micro Battery, CIC Energigune, ARKEMA, Fraunhofer Gesellschaft Zur F?rderung De Angewandten Forschung, Pulsedeon Oy, ACCUREC Recycling, Optimat, Technische Universit?t Dresden, VDL Enabling Transport Solutions BV and Renault.

Under the license agreement No. 814471, the project has received funding for the EU Horizon 2020 R&D Innovation Project.
