Stearic acid is widely used in the manufacture of PVC plastic pipes, plates, profiles and films. It is a PVC heat stabilizer with good lubricity and better light and heat stabilization. In plastic PVC pipes, stearic acid helps prevent "coking" during processing, and is an effective heat stabilizer when added to PVC film processing, as well as defending the finished film from discoloration caused by exposure to sulfide.

Mitsubishi Motors announced on December 19 that it will recall about 1.2 million mini-vehicles in the Japanese market (with an engine capacity of no more than 660 cc). It is understood that the reason for this is that there are hidden dangers in the engine of the above vehicles, which may lead to oil leakage.
Mitsubishi will recall minicars such as Minica and Minicab, with production years between 1996 and 2004. A Mitsubishi spokesperson explained that the engine oil seal of the above-mentioned vehicle has a probability of slippage. If the engine oil leaks, the engine may be turned off. Mitsubishi will set out to increase the number of flaps to prevent the oil seal from falling off, and some vehicles will replace the new one.
According to Mitsubishi estimates, the cost of this recall will reach 7.5 billion yen (about 89.3 million US dollars), which is currently not included in the company's 2012-2013 budget.
A spokesperson for Mitsubishi said that the failure has not caused any report of a collision or casualty, and vehicles outside the market in Japan have not been affected.
